Under The Radar

With the plethora of posthumous Buckley releases, one might think this another attempt to market a legacy. But none could argue Buckley's strength as a live performer, and the tracks here are fine documents. [Summer 2009, p.71]

While the whole package is marketed as a "love letter" to fans, true followers will quickly be able to sniff out its inferiorities. If anything, this latest selection from the dwindling Buckley vaults subverts his talents and ultimately insults the same hardcore fans it's aimed at.

Look I'm not gonna be predictable and go bitch n moan about this being a sinister cash-in sorta dealio because hell you're lying to yerself if you don't rekonize this shit's gonna be ate up (w/ some tracks canonized) by all them ever present Buckley-o-maniacs we got scrounging around out there--so let's not kid ourselves it has it's purpose and its not a cynical sorta release. But jumpin jehoshaphat is it a chore to really sit through the thing. I thought I was hardcore but thbxbt to use a church analogy this is what separates the "on the regular" attendees from the outright zealots with all kinds of noodlings and overwrought flatness. Blind buy at your peril, chillen.

Why? jeff buckley has been packaged and repackaged so many times and his one full album was mostly covers. the only reason i can see for all this to resurface is to cash in on the wave of michael jackson nostalgia. a pointless, condescending marketing ploy.
