Iron Man, an explosive third-person action shooter game that pits one of the world's most renowned Super Heroes against unspeakable odds, draws its story from the upcoming movie while also incorporating story elements from original Iron Man comic books. Using the advanced technology in Iron Man's suits of armour, gamers can take advantage of the wide array of high-impact weapons to strategically annihilate any enemy force standing in their way. Before tackling stunning and immense open battlefields, players can customise their armour suit as they encounter progressively more vicious enemies, and fight in epic battles that could challenge even the toughest Super Heroes. If you can get past Iron Man’s head-scratching learning curve, what are you left with? A game that’s far from perfect, but still better than a lot of movie and comic book tie-ins that have come before ( *wink* Catwoman).

Overall, the Iron Man title on the Wii lacked the spark that the film had; however, it’s a huge step up from last year's A2M film franchise adaptation, known as The Golden Compass. That said, if players are looking for a film to game adaptation that actually reflects the film, they should look elsewhere.

If you're expecting this to be more than the average licensed game, though, you'll be a bit let down. [June 2008, p.88]

Webster's New World College Dictionary Fourth Edition defines bland as "tasteless, insipid, dull, etc." I describe bland as "Iron Man."

Enough effort was put into the gameplay and graphical design to keep it from crashing and burning, but not enough to inject it with any sort of life or appeal.

Iron Man is your classic film tie-in; it reeks of under-development and simply isn't worth your time or money.

It may come as no surprise to you to hear that Iron Man is a poor game, everything about it just screams mediocre, unfortunately at this rate we may never see a decent movie/game tie-in because for every one that is half decent follows another twenty that are for want of a better word, garbage.

I hesitate to say that Iron Man is dumbed down for the Wii, PlayStation 2, and PSP, since hardware limitations likely necessitated such a distinct iteration, but the resulting experience is a by-the-numbers affair unlikely to rouse most action fans.

This is every bit the under-developed movie tie-in. [Aug 2008, p.63]

If Iron Man Wii looked better and played smoother it would at least be bearable. But it doesn't and it isn't. [Issue#23, p.62]

The movie is good; the game is not, so save yourself the heartache, the pain, and a few hours. I, on the other hand, was not so lucky, but that's life.

A depressing, boring, frustrating mess, 'Iron Man: The Official Videogame' is nothing short of abysmal. Wait for the film to come out on DVD.

How Sega thinks it can get away with this utter detritus is beyond us. [July 2008, p.101]

Game rocks! love playing it.

Peter J. gave it a2:
I rented this for my son for the Wii, and I was not expecting much. But it was even worse than I expected. I should have just downloaded the free demo on our PS3 and just let him play that.
