Official Nintendo Magazine UK

Serious boxing action that isn't spoilt by silly effects. Don King's Boxing is a great option. [Apr 2009, p.68]

We have to applaud 2K’s initiative to offer a solid boxing alterrnative on the Wii. While Don King’s Prizefighter on the Xbox 360 was not the game many boxing fans expected it to be, the Wii version is certainly more fun than that boxing game found in Wii Sports and certainly more efficient than Ready 2 Rumble Revolution and Facebreaker.

Game Over Online

Don King Boxing is not a bad game, but it’s not nearly as good as it could have been.

All in all you've got a nice game with Don King Boxing, especially if you are a boxing fan. But you might still have to wait until the game becomes cheaper, because it's not a real winner.

Games Master UK

It's got solid controls, but there's not enough variety in its structure and the single-player challenge quickly becomes boring. [May 2009, p.85]

games(TM)

Charmed by the stellar cast and King's saccharin smile and greying 'fro, we were almost blinkered to the fact that a goldfish could still play this game nearly as effectively as us. [May 2009, p.106]

Gameplanet

Some great concepts and plenty of potential, but ultimately the game lacks polish and pizazz. One thing’s for sure; this ain’t no Rumble in the Jungle.

Gamers' Temple

Don King Boxing does nothing new or break ground, and it's possibly a cash-in for non-hardcore gamers who want to squeeze life out of the balance board, but as a party game you can't go much deeper than what this game offers.

IGN

Boxing is one of the more demanding sports to try and bring motion control to, and while MotionPlus could change all that once is releases later this year, 2K China included just one control scheme in Don King, and it only sort of works.

NGamer UK

Our hopes were raised by the decent control scheme. But the gameplay is as messy and tangled as the great man's hair. Leave this one ringside.

Good controls can't cover up for the boring, lifeless fights.

Nintendo Power

Wait for Punch-Out!! if you're hankering for some fisticuffs. [May 2009, p.89]

InsideGamer.nl

Don King Boxing isn't a great game. The video's before the fight are the only good thing about the game. The fighting system does work, with the exception of the hooks. This is frustrating and kills the gameplay. Besides that it is fair to say that the graphics are pretty messed up.

Every good boxing game should have decent controls, but Don King Boxing doesn't seem to understand that. Even the option to use your Balance Board doesn't change that. The looks are equally bad and not worth mentioning. What remains is a decent story-mode with funny details that will appeal to every boxing fan.

Eurogamer Portugal

It is unsatisfactory, frustrating and tiring, in any sense of the word. If you think this genre has still a gap in Wii’s catalogue, then Don King Boxing doesn’t really change anything.

Eurogamer

The sad truth is, if you already have a Wii, you've already got a better boxing title in the shape of Wii Sports - a game that not only allows you to pummel away at a cartoon representation of your sister, but also effortlessly possesses more charm, more wit, and - worryingly - a lot more precision than anything this can offer.

Gaming Age

To date there is no way to come closer to real boxing, without getting a bloody nose that is, than Don King Boxing. So, if you are a hardcore boxing fan or a fan of the genre I would suggest that you pick this title up. For everyone else, the controls, visuals and music make me suggest that you keep on looking.
