Summary
[WiiWare] In CRYSTAL DEFENDERS R2, you must deploy various units, such as Fencers and Black Mages, to stop waves of encroaching monsters from escaping the area with your party's crystals. There are many types of units to choose from: Some specialize in powerful short-range attacks, some wield far-reaching magicks and still others are equipped with bows, enabling them to bring down aerial foes. Deploy units in strategic locations to take full advantage of their traits. Each time an enemy breaches your defenses and reaches a map's exit, your party will lose crystals. When all your crystals are gone, the game is over. CRYSTAL DEFENDERS R2 offers several new, challenging maps containing multiple entrances and exits. It also introduces three varieties of Power Crystals, allowing you to enhance the abilities of your units, while new jobs, including Flintlock and Tinker, set the stage for even more complex strategies. Can you defend all the maps without losing a single crystal? [Square Enix]

Nintendo Life
Crystal Defenders R2 features a bit more challenge and just feels a little meatier overall than the first release. If you enjoyed Crystal Defenders R1, you'll likely enjoy this second title as it's basically more of the same, just with a little more of an edge to it.

Overall, Crystal Defenders R2 is better than R1, although it maintains the technical issues. It may keep you busier due to the greater variety of unities and the higher difficulty, but nothing changes the fact they should be launched as one, like in Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3.

It’s obvious Square knows how to make the game the right way… the company was just lazy with Crystal Defenders on iPhone until people complained, and that laziness transitions over to Wii where we’ve never seen a content update in any game on WiiWare, and I don’t expect one now.
