GamePro
Lives up to EA Sports' tagline by re-creating soccer completely.

I can honestly say that FIFA 2001 is a damn fine game without any guilt or remorse. The animations are great, the sense of speed is solid, and the overall sense of the game is comprised of refinement and depth.

FIFA's awesome graphics, great controls and ample array of options ensured that it became the ick for fans of the fastest growing sport in the world. [Nov 2001, p.43]

Hot Games
If you're a FIFA newbie and own nothing but a PSX, FIFA 2001 is by far the best soccer sim out there.

A lack of any significant refinement or incremental upgrades and graphics that haven't stood the test of time make FIFA 2001 a pale upgrade to last year's FIFA title.

Even though the gameplay is up to par, the graphics need to keep up with the times.

Happy Puppy
It's extremely satisfying to take the U.S. to the World Cup finals (hey, a guy can dream, can't he?), Arsenal to the top of the English Premiere League, or simply play out bitter rivalries like Celtic vs. Rangers, or heck, Chicago Fire versus Deportivo la Coruna...could happen....

It's got bottomless depth, good AI and everything we loved so much about the series. It just doesn't have much new stuff to talk about.

Spank!
People looking for a more realistic and rewarding football experience go for "ISS Pro Evolution." If a fast and not too taxing kickabout is what you want, well, you know the score with FIFA games by now.

Ziggy S. gave it a 6:
Pretty fun. I can only score 1 way though (center it and bicycle kick it from the middle) which makes it a little boring. Also i don't like any of the camera views. You can only have it too zoomed in or too zoomed out. Great graphics and good 2 player gameplay are what makes the game good.

Yossi gave it a 9:
I actually give this game a 9.5. I just picked up the game yesterday and found playing it for the first time that the controls were not too complicated and easy to use -- a big Plus ++++. I would like them to go back to the indoor option again as in FIFA 97. It was a real suprise and a plus to see about a quarter of the Israeli Pre teams in the game but I would also like the inclusion of some of the better 2nd divsion teams from the US like Rochester Rhino who after all have beaten several MLS teams in open cup play:o) Thanks, and I am looking forward to what FIFA 2002 brings.

Andres M. gave it a 10:
The best.

Karl D. gave it a 4:
After I bought FIFA 2001, I spent 2 hours playing it, and then I went quickly to buy "ISS Pro Evolution 2"! This game is sluggish. Except for some good graphics, a relatively big team database with some real football kits (a thing which I like a lot) the game is not much enjoyable. You can easily score, and when you do so, you have not that nice feel of glory. The gameplay is not addictive at all and lacks real fun. If you want some really good gameplay, opt for ISS2, a really worthy purchase, not like this one. Bad EA!!
