Summary
Planet 51, the white picket-fence world reminiscent of 1950s America is happy, safe and predictable...until the unpredictable happens! Out of the blue, Captain Charles 'Chuck' Baker’s spaceship comes crashing down. Unaware of his surroundings, Chuck begins to realize that he is not alone. Taking refuge while planning his return home, Chuck meets green-skinned local, Lem, and realizes that he may be the real 'alien' after all! Based on the family animated comedy from the writers of Shrek and Shrek 2. Test your skills in a series of action-filled adventures that are out of this world. Try to outrun and outwit the Planet 51 Police and Army, find Chuck’s spaceship and help Chuck return home to Earth. VEHICLES GALORE: Race and chase as you complete tasks and evade the enemy in an incredible array of hover vehicles, ranging from cars, pick-up trucks and bicycles through to taxis, police cars, heavy trucks and even lawnmowers. MAKE NEW FRIENDS: Take control of the main characters from the movie - suave Astronaut Charles "Chuck" Baker and his new alien friend 'Lem' - utilising their special abilities and skills as you complete each mission. With numerous missions, minigames even multiplayer action you’ll get carried away exploring the world of Planet 51. Players relive memorable movie moments as well as discovering new environments and missions created exclusively for the videogame. [Sega]

Planet 51 is a decent attempt at a movie based game, its main problem though is that it is just no fun.

Children under 10 who dig the movie will get some decent entertainment out of what is essential GTA for kids. However, the uneven difficulty, technical issues and uninspired story keep this game from being anything other than passable entertainment.

Planet 51 just doesn’t deliver. The entire production feels bare and a little watered down, and the technical hang-ups continue to persist throughout the game.

The movie might be quite funny and entertaining, but the game isn’t. A ludicrously multiplayer mode, similar missions, technical mistakes and long loading times – and there are still more negative things in it.

An open-world game for kids, Planet 51: The Game doesn't have a lot of very serious problems, but being very dull and uninspired is of course the biggest flaw in itself.

Like a dry cracker for dinner, this is very bland, very boring, and not much fun at all. [Jan 2010, p.75]
Cheat Code Central
Whether it's the floaty and complicated vehicle handling, the confused radar, the repetitive nature of the missions, or the random and surprising difficulty spikes, Planet 51 gives players (especially younger ones) a multitude of good reasons to stay away.

Planet 51: The Game isn’t a bad licensed game, really, but something far worse: it’s a boring game.

Sadly, Planet 51 is a classic bad tie in; despite its young target, the title misses the point, and even if you loved the movie you won't be compelled by the boring gameplay.

With dull events, terrible lip synching in the cut scenes, short story and just not enough to do for a sandbox game the few fun vehicle parts just aren’t enough. If you have some small children who enjoyed the film it’s probably worth picking up just to keep them quiet for a bit, but for anyone else it just isn’t worth it.

Think twice before exploring this planet. [Jan 2010, p.83]
