| Freedom Force vs. the Third Reich |
 |
Freedom is threatened yet again and only Minute Man and his heroic Freedom Force can save the day in the follow up to one of the most critically acclaimed games of 2002. Freedom Force vs. the Third Reich brings dynamic storytelling, fast-paced tactical role-play, and larger-than-life characters from the comic book pages to the computer screen. In this title, the league of heroes must travel back in time to defeat Blitzkrieg, defender of the Reich and his homicidal henchmen. With action spanning from the blasted battlefields of World War II to the dazzling depths of distant dimensions, Freedom Force vs. the Third Reich will give Freedom Fans more than they can handle. Four Fat Chicks
From involving story to eye-popping graphics, very funny script, incredible characters, great voice acting, ultra-smooth gameplay, and an unusual range of extended play options, FFVTR brings it all together better than any PC game I've played in the past year.

100
Computer Gaming World
Just when you think the story is winding down, an incredible twist sends the narrative spiraling dramatically in another direction. [May 2005, p.86]

97
Worth Playing
Not just the best superhero game to date, but it defines what a fantastic superhero game should be.

94
My Gamer
Tremendous fun. The graphics, sound, story, and customization are top-notch. Most importantly, however, the gameplay is amazing.

92
ActionTrip
An excellent game that retains all the qualities of the original while managing to polish some of its minor flaws and build on the technological aspect of it.

92
Gaming Illustrated
The neatest thing about FFVTTR is that you truly interact with the environment – you can destroy buildings, and even pick up lampposts to swat opponents. This is a serious innovation and really makes the game stand out.

91
Gaming Nexus
Heck, it’s also quite a solid squad-based strategy game, so those leery of the superhero genre could be brought into the fold.

90
Computer Games Magazine
Just like the original "Freedom Force", this is a real-time strategy game for comic-book geeks, by comic-book geeks. [June 2005, p.53]
90
Game Chronicles
Thankfully with beefed-up graphics, added multiplayer support and another solid storyline filled with classic comic goodness, they came through in heroic fashion.

90
PC Gameworld
This is what the comic book craze has been waiting for. It’s an original, interesting game that breaks the bonds of the usual hack-and-slash drudgery.

90
PC Format
It's rare that a game with almost exactly the same engine and characters as its antecedent matches it blow for blow, but this is the exception to the rule. [May 2005, p.95]

90
IGN
Sure, you get some new multiplayer modes but it's still hard to shake the feeling that this is just a prettier version of the original Freedom Force. That still makes it one of the best games around.

90
GameSpy
There are very few games, though, that manage to take great gameplay and merge it with the kind of sheer exuberant style that brings a big goofy grin to your face that never leaves you while you're playing.

90
Cheat Code Central
A classic comic book come to life... With a great story, excellent controls, graphics and voiceovers you are certain to get your money's worth out of this game.
90
Inside Gamer Online
This is pure, unadulterated fun at its finest, so don't expect complex strategic decision making or hours of agonized role playing as you customize your characters. Instead, let Irrational's newest delight serve as a reminder that games, above all else, are meant to entertain and amuse us.

90
GameShark
It's the kind of game that makes you want to go out and buy a geeky t-shirt or a pocket protector with the logo Prominently displayed on to let the world know that you love this game.

90
Yahoo! Games
It's both a parody and tribute to the four-color pages of yesteryear when spandex heroes fought against world menaces, using a mix of brain, brawn, and unrestrained hyperbole. The game captures this with a wink, but also a great deal of love.

88
Games Radar UK (Pre-2006)
Although it's not an astonishing leap forward, Freedom Force vs the Third Reich does boast better graphics, better AI and better multiplayer than its predecessor, making it a winner all round. [PC Gamer UK]

87
Loaded Inc
I was hoping to be wowed again. For now, I will just wait to see what the mod community can do to entice me to keep this game on my hard drive.

87
Game Over Online
Both Freedom Force games have the same kooky, over-the-top comic book charm to them, and almost all of the voice actors from the first game returned to reprise their roles in the sequel, and they all did another fantastic job.

87
GameSpot
A great story and a wonderful cast of characters are once again the highlights of this game, which anyone with an appreciation for comic books would probably love.

87
2404.org
It is stylistically awesome, highly entertaining to play, absorbing--there is also a lot to do--and it's technically polished till it shines.

85
GameZone
A fun action RPG with a great story and unwavering authenticity to the comics on which it is inspired.

85
IC-Games
From the whacky colour schemes to the weapon effects and character detail, this game couldn’t look any better and makes other comic book games look like a Thunderbirds set (the Blue-Peter one).

84
FiringSquad
There are areas it could be improved - the fights could be bigger and more involved, and the game could be longer, and the powers have a little more oomph - but it's really just a series of minor nitpicks that tug away at the whole experience.

83
Jolt Online Gaming UK
What it is though is a linear (and we don’t mean that negatively) RPG with an emphasis on tactical combat, more than a nod to the classic comic books, and a sizeable helping of fun.

83
Game Informer
It isn't going to blow anyone's doors off, but it's a solid strategy/RPG with a lot of humor, a great presentation, and a lot of expandability in terms of user-created content. [Apr 2005, p.139]
82
Pelit (Finland)
The handling of source material is excellent: plot, sound acting, characters, Secret Origins and all. Sadly, the game is pretty generic, and the lack of friendly AI makes the real-time gaming tedious. [May 05]
81
RPG Fan
It is a nostalgia trip, a salute to the Silver and Golden ages, and a wonderful piece of whimsy. It is at the same time humorous and heart-warming to see all these familiar and old concepts.

81
Gamer's Hell
Every aspect of the game is a hit and blends together to create a worthy successor to Freedom Force.

81
PC Gamer
Ultimately, it's more of the same. Thankfully, the first game left us wanting more. [May 2005, p.64]
80
Play Magazine
When all the inane and lovingly crafted comic kitsch subsides, you're left with a very good little RPG. [Apr 2005, p.67]
80
VideoGamesLife
It's Freedom Force, basically, but with a bit of spit and polish. It wouldn't be unfair to say this could've retailed as an expansion pack, except for the fact virtually no-one bought the first game.

80
AceGamez
It's not pushing any boundaries but the game still comes with the right mix of fun, humour and enjoyment that seem to be lacking in these days of hyper realistic action games.

80
Pelaaja (Finland)
Heroes from the game can just as well be imagined to appear in real superhero comic books doing the same things they are doing in the game. [May 2005, p.87]
80
GamerFeed
The game may play exactly like its predecessor, but as the saying goes: If it isn't broken, don't fix it!

79
Computer Games Online RO
Although it doesn't excel in any way and the additions brought by it hardly justify the characterization as a sequel, FFvt3R is a fun game, which manages to bring to the PC the look and feel of comic-book super-heroes, sporting some colorful characters and vivid graphics.

70
Adrenaline Vault
Its additions are fine and I enjoyed the game overall, but too many elements are the same as its predecessor, giving the program the feel of a very-polished expansion pack.

70
Edge Magazine
Ignore the presentation, the much-talked-about comic book inspiration. Ignore the artwork, the ridiculous voiceovers and the magnificent origin stories. Pay it no attention. The really funny thing about Freedom Force is how little the funny stuff matters. [May 2005, p.89]
70
WHAM! Gaming
What's also frustrating is that lower-level foes with no real super powers like Nazi soldiers and Nuclear Winter's henchmen are way too strong. Often you may find yourself swarming an irritating straggler here and there after engaging in a huge rumble that has left your team weaker than Aunt May.

P CLASS="usercomment">Dave W. gave it a0: The characters irritated me so much I had to stop playing the game. I have played hundreds, possibly thousands of games in my life, and this is only the second time this has happened. (True Crime being the other one).
